Potjie Pots are newly manufactured and coated with a baked vegetable oil to preserve the cast iron. We no longer paint potjie pots as seasoning these cooking pots in the old fashioned way with a good shortening or vegetable oil will blacken them naturally over time and with use and also will make the pot stronger and more elastic (yes, cast iron can become brittle), resulting in a more beautiful pot like cast iron from the old days. Seasoning instructions are included.

Potjie Pots are made in many sizes from small herb pots to large cook kettles and pre-seasoned with high quality flax oil. Pots include well-fitted lids and heavy duty carrying handles. The round shape allows the heat to flow evenly around the sides and maintain liquids at the lowest point to keep food from burning. The lid has a deep lip for holding hot coals providing top heat. Used world-wide for cajun stews, jambalayas, paellas, seafoods, Fish Fries, Beans, Turkeys, Roasts and anything you can cook over an outdoor fire. Excellent for cooking over open fires or LP gas burners.

These little pots are made from pure cast iron and there are rubber fill corks on the bottom. Coarse-ground pepper and salt will work just fine in these cast iron salt and pepper shakers.

Tripods are heavy duty for holding small, medium or large cast iron pots. Made from extra strength steel and will easily hold up to size 8 pots. We do not recommend pots over Size 8 because our larger pots should be set firmly on the ground for more stability and safety. There are 3 hooks on the lower part of the tripod legs for attaching a BBQ grill as shown in the photo below, Grill will be available in time for the late 2010 Fall camping season.
Tripod legs have spikes on the bottom for achoring into the ground. Legs can also stand on a firm flat surface. Tripod includes adjustable chain and heavy iron legs. Legs fold inward together for easy transport.
